BURLINGTON- On October 15, Indian Americans for Burlington (IAB) held its first Diwali celebration on Burlington Town Common. Hundreds gathered to take part in meaningful traditions, watch dancing performances, design ‘rangoli’ art, and eat authentic Indian food. IAB was joined by several state and town officials, including State Senator Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington), the Burlington Board of Selectmen, and the Burlington police chief Mike Kent.
In honor of the celebration, Senator Friedman remarked, “Celebrating diversity in our community and encouraging our neighbors to learn more about and recognize the value of other cultures is incredibly important. When we come together as a community as we are today to celebrate Diwali, we take an important step toward facilitating a more welcoming environment for all.”
