BOSTON- On Wednesday, June 6, Representative Jay Kaufman (D-Lexington), Senator Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington), and Representative Jim Dwyer (D-Woburn) joined their legislative colleagues in passing H.4549, An Act providing for capital facility repairs and improvements for the Commonwealth, a compromise borrowing bill agreed to by both chambers.
The bill authorizes $3.87 billion in bonds for repairs and improvements of capital facilities in Woburn, surrounding communities, and the Commonwealth as a whole.
The local delegation is proud to report that local projects include:
- $2,000,000 for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and boilers and controls at the fourth district court of eastern Middlesex in Woburn; and
- $650,000 for the renovation and improvement of the Ned O’Brien Ice Rink in Woburn.
“It is vital that we repair and maintain our courts,” said Representative Kaufman. “The court not only serves Woburn but the communities of Burlington, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wilmington, and Winchester. The facility repairs are needed and will provide an improved experience for all using and working in the court.”
“I’m pleased that funding to support the revitalization of the Ned O’Brien Ice Rink was included in the bond bill,” said Senator Friedman. “With these funds, we will be able to make necessary improvements to the facility’s infrastructure, enhancing the overall experience for the youth and families who utilize it on a regular basis.”
“I’m very happy to see our courts and athletic facilities receive the essential funding they deserve,” says Representative Dwyer. “The Ned O’Brien Ice Rink is a long standing pillar of the Woburn community. Now that improvements can be made, it will continue to be a fantastic resource for the city’s children and families.”
Other regional projects of note include:
- $10,000,000 to produce and complete an environmental impact report final environmental impact statement on the North South Rail Link; and
- $400,000 for a study to document and analyze the condition and strategic placement of Massachusetts Army National Guard facilities and create a master-plan for their capital needs.
