H4030 An Act Relative to Special Police Officers In the Town of Burlington

Senator Friedman is taking the lead on the following bills that were originally filed by the late Senator Ken Donnelly at the start of the 2017-2018 legislative session:

S1090 An Act to establish a center of excellence in community policing and behavioral health

  • Summary: This bill would establish a center of excellence in community policing & behavioral health to serve as a clearinghouse for best practices in police response to people with mental illness and substance use disorders. The center would also implement crisis intervention training for all veteran and new recruit municipal police officers and provide technical assistance to cities and towns to form collaborative partnerships between law enforcement and human service providers to maximize referrals to treatment services.

S1300 An Act relative to regional lock-up facilities

  • Summary: This bill would allow the sheriff within each county to establish 1 regional lock-up facility within the county for persons arrested with or without a warrant and under any civil process.

S1301 An Act relative to enhanced fire protection in new one and two family dwellings

  • Summary: This bill would allow a local option that would require that newly designed 1 or 2 family residential buildings be equipped with smoke detectors in accordance with the board of fire prevention regulations.
