Resolution Honoring 2018 Massachusetts Winter Olympians, Feb. 14, 2018 RECOGNIZING THE COMMONWEALTH’S ATHLETES WHO WERE SELECTED TO COMPETE IN THE XXIII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES.

Senator Cindy Friedman offered the following resolution to honor the 13 Massachusetts athletes selected to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The resolution was adopted and enacted during a Feb. 14 Senate formal session in Gardner Auditorium at the Massachusetts State House:

            WHEREAS, THE UNITED STATES HAS SENT TALENTED ATHLETES FROM ACROSS THE NATION TO COMPETE IN THE XXIII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES IN THE COUNTY OF PYEONGCHANG IN THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA, 13 OF WHOM WILL REPRESENT THE COMMONWEALTH; AND

            WHEREAS, THE 13 ATHLETES HAIL FROM COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH, INCLUDING ANDOVER, BOSTON, BURLINGTON, DANVERS, HINGHAM, MARLBOROUGH, MARSTONS MILLS, MELROSE, NORTH READING, SAUGUS, SCITUATE AND WESTFIELD; AND

            WHEREAS, THE COMMONWEALTH’S ATHLETES WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SPORTS OF ICE HOCKEY, BOBSLED, SNOWBOARDING and FREESTYLE AND ALPINE SKIING; AND

            WHEREAS, KALI FLANAGAN, CHRIS BOURQUE, BOBBY BUTLER, RYAN DONATO, JOHN MCCARTHY, NOAH WELCH, KACEY BELLAMY, MEGHAN DUGGAN, JONATHAN CHEEVER, MIKE TRAPP, ANNALISA DREW, STEVEN LANGTON AND ALICE MERRYWEATHER ARE A SOURCE OF GREAT PRIDE FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES, THE COMMONWEALTH AND THE NATION; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

            RESOLVED, THAT THE MASSACHUSETTS SENATE HEREBY EXPRESSES ITS SINCERE BEST WISHES AND STRONG SUPPORT FOR THE COMMONWEALTH’S ATHLETES IN THE XXIII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES; AND BE IT FURTHER

            RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THESE RESOLUTIONS BE TRANSMITTED FORTHWITH BY THE CLERK OF THE SENATE TO KALI FLANAGAN, CHRIS BOURQUE, BOBBY BUTLER, RYAN DONATO, JOHN MCCARTHY, NOAH WELCH, KACEY BELLAMY, MEGHAN DUGGAN, JONATHAN CHEEVER, MIKE TRAPP, ANNALISA DREW, STEVEN LANGTON AND ALICE MERRYWEATHER.
